The 5 Measurement Tools

Tree Height

Stand at a measured distance from the tree. Point your phone at the base of the trunk and tap. Point at the top of the crown and tap. The app uses your phone's gyroscope to calculate the angle between those two points and compute the height. Accurate to within a foot or two on most trees when done correctly. No ladder, no tape measure, no separate device.

Lean Angle

Hold your phone against the trunk and measure the degree of lean. The app flags dangerous leans over 15 degrees and records the direction of lean. This data belongs in the tree record and the client conversation — a 20-degree lean toward a structure is a liability discussion, not just a pruning job.

Canopy Spread

Point your phone at the leftmost edge of the canopy and tap. Point at the rightmost edge and tap. The app calculates the canopy diameter in feet. This gives you the drop zone width for removal planning and the canopy square footage for pruning estimates.

Pace Distance

Walk toward the tree tapping a button with each step. The app counts your steps and multiplies by your calibrated pace length to give you the distance. No tape measure needed for getting your standing distance for the height calculation, or for measuring setback from structures.

Measurement Log

Every measurement you take is saved with the date, time, and estimate number it was taken on. Export the full log as a CSV. This creates a documented record of tree conditions that's useful for warranty conversations, re-assessment visits, and demonstrating due diligence on hazard removals.

Why This Matters for Pricing

Guessing a tree's height leads to underpriced jobs. A tree that looks like 50 feet that's actually 70 feet means two more hours of work you didn't price. The measurement tool takes 30 seconds and removes that guesswork. On large properties with many trees, the difference between estimated and measured heights can swing the total by thousands of dollars.
